WPT interns/volunteers are given the opportunity to shadow pediatric OT, PT, and Speech therapy sessions. The amount of shadowing you will be able to have will vary based on your hours and the number of available sessions open for shadowing. Not every child will be able to accept an observer. We have a system in place to differentiate observable sessions and non-observable sessions.
As an intern/volunteer, you are not permitted to have hands on a child or provide therapeutic advice, but you are allowed to participate in a session if a therapist initiates this. This might look like playing a board game, turn-taking by rolling a ball, or even naming animals back and forth!
